This year seven Cadets recieved scholarships. This is just one of the ways our chapter promotes the Air Force as well as studies in Science Technology Enginering and Mathematics (STEM).

Miami, Florida 14th April 2010: Founded in 1927, the Greater Miami Aviation Association, commonly known in South Florida as the GMAA is the Nations oldest, professional aviation association. Founded four years before what is now a days Miami International Airport, the GMAA 83 year span has seen the progressive development of the U.S. commercial aviation industry, whose roots were established in Miami with such famous airlines as Pan American World Airways and Eastern Airlines.

The "Relevent" leadership and mindset in which Benny and Rod have implemented within the AFA-317th since November of 2009 and having worked in a sort of "wing-man" concept is now being "exported" to another Miami based organization. It should be noted that with the election of Rod onto the GMAA it marks the first time in the organization 83 year history that it has had a dual Military & Civilian Test Pilot as an elected official on it Board of Directors. Benny has been a member of the GMAA since he stood up his organization, the 94th AeroClaims-Aviation Consultant Group back in 2003 and has held previous positions within the GMAA as a member of the its Board of Directors and was formerly 1st Vice President.

In 2009, Benny took a leave of absents due to operational commitments, as he applied time and effort to other ventures of which included the ramping up of the AFA-317th, but maintained his contacts with the (GMAA) as an advisor to the past President Mr. Dan Sullivan.

Shown is the famed "Century Fighter" the Convair F-106 "Delta Dart". Aside of the two common platform which both Rod and Eric flew, thus being the F-16 & F-15, they too share flight experience with the F-106. The F-106 was flown by the Florida Air National Guard.

Miami, Florida April 6th 2010: AFA-317th Chapter member Bernie Schumacher, who is an active member of the Miami Quite Birdmen Association, extended a special invite to AFA-317th Chapter President Lt. Col. Rodrigo "Rod" Huete USAF (Ret.) who spoke about the realm of military and civilian flight testing and test piloting at the Quite Birdmen Association April meeting, which was held at the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant.

Also, present by invite was AFA-317th Chapter President, Benny F. Benitez, who along with Rod proudly represented the 317th and provided copies of AFA magazines to the attendees.

Rod's speech present an in depth look at what is often a secret and unknown world of the test pilot. From the days of our Nation's space exploration "The Right Stuff" to today's corp of American and foreign test pilots, both military and civilian, the audience was able to obtain a detailed briefing as to how it all plays out. Rod's ability to blend his real life experience as test pilot with the USAF and the FAA with formulated instructional visuals cues and slides, provided a brilliant, informative and entertaining evening for all who attended and gave yet another positive exposure to the AFA-317th within the community.

Air Force Association Miami-Homestead Chapter The 317th Visits Opa Locka Airport For New Memebership and Surveys The "Round Engine Classics" Aircrafts

One could only imagine the untold numbers of passengers that this aircraft a Douglas DC-7C has carried in its glory years, when the commercial airline industry was very different from today and yet after all those years this aircraft still earns a living, as it soldiers on as a cargo carrier for Florida Air Transport an established and experienced Opa Locka, Florida based FAR 125 operator
A veteran of the recent Haitian earthquake relief fleet of aircraft that transported endless amount of supplies and relief equipment from South Florida to Port Au Prince airport sit poised ready for its calling. Note the "Grasshopper" logo on the forward section, as the flights to Haiti were called and identified by the USAF combat controller who managed the airspace as "Grasshopper" due to the fact that such aircraft's landed on the grass area along the main runway to save the "asphalt" for the heavy jets.
AFA-317th Chapter Vice President Lt. Col Rodrigo "Rod" Huete USAF (Ret.) stand next to an RD4, the U.S. Navy version of the venerable Douglas DC-3. This aircraft too earns its living by hauling cargo to the local islands within the Bahamas as well as other destinations within the Caribbean
Another Classic a Douglas DC-7B that was saved from the torch of the scrapper and restored to its former glory as Silver Falcon airliner for Eastern Airlines. This aircraft will soon be flying the national airshow circuit, as a flying museum belonging to the Historical Aircraft Flight Foundation. This is the ONLY DC-7B in the world to have been restored to its original airliner condition
A far cry from the supersonic jets that Lt. Col Rodrigo "Rod" Huete once flew as a former USAF Test Pilot, but nonetheless it was aircraft's such as these classic "round engines" that fueled "Rod's" love and admiration for aviation as a boy. He commented on the amazement that was seeing the engines of Braniff's DC-6's & 7's chug to life by belching out smoke and sputtering oil at his local hometwon airport.

Opa Locka, Florida 26th March 2010: Working within the "wing man" concept the President and Vice President of the Air Force Association Miami-Homestead Chapter, the 317th are becoming a common site through out the greater Miami area. Benny and Rod have coordinated their efforts and professional schedules to bring and promote the AFA to many of their clients and colleagues. Being that both of them operate well established, recognized and respected aviation consultant firms within the greater Miami / South Florida area, the task of blending their efforts to advocate for the support of the Miami-Homestead Chapter within their daily operational schedule is fairly easy.

Their trip to Opa Locka took them to visit Wisetouch Interiors an aircraft interior service provider company and a prospective supporter of the AFA. It has become standard operating procedures between Benny and Rod to be pro-active and aggressive when promoting the AFA and seeking community / industry support. The high lite of the visit to Opa Locka airport was nonetheless the ability to tour the flight line and walk among the classic "round engine" aircraft's of which there are not too many still left operationally or still earning their keep.

Village of Key Biscayne, Florida 17th March 2010: AFA-317th Vice President Lt. Col. Rodrigo "Rod" Huete USAF (Ret.) met with the Mayor of Key Biscayne, the Honorable Mr. Bob Veron. Rod's mission was to properly introduce the Air Force Association Miami-Homestead Chapter, the 317th to the Key Biscayne Village local Government. In addition, they discussed the participation of the AFA-317th Miami-Homestead Chapter in their 4th of July Parade.

The Key Biscayne 4th of July parade is the only formal parade in the entire Miami-Dade area honoring our Nation independence, the parade initiates with the playing our Nation anthem along with an impressive flyby of F-16 from the 482nd Fighter Wing / 93rd Fighter Squadron, "The Makos" based at Homestead Air Reserve Air Base.

In the Chapter pursuit of being "Relevant" within the local community, its is befitting that our Chapter be properly represented within this notable event. The AFA-317th plans to show its colors by parading in a yet to be determine classic model automobile to be provided by a local dealer.

Within his "Aero Work Shop" AFA-317th President Benny Benitez holds the "WR-09" concept UAV model while still under production and prior to painting. The concept model was designed, created and finished within 48 hours over the weekend of March 13th / 14th by the AFA-317th President for presentation to the students to use as a design mock up / training aid

Miami, Florida 16th March 2010: The leadership of the Air Force Association Miami-Homestead Chapter, the 317th consisting of the Chapter President, Benny Benitez and its Vice President Lt. Col. Rodrigo "Rod" Huete USAF (Ret.) visited the students at George T. Baker Aviation School to continue showing the Chapter support toward the students project concerning the creation of a proposed Hydrogen powered UAV for a National science competition. Lt. Col Huete background as a former USAF Test Pilot and Aeronautical Engineer, coupled with the Chapter President background in aircraft design and maintenance as an FAA Licenced Technician are a wealth of support and inspiration for the students.

In their effort to motivate and inspire the students at George T. Baker AFA-317th Chapter President Benny Benitez over the weekend of March 13th and 14th dedicate his time to design, create and produce a concept UAV model called the "WR-09" for the students to have as a concept design model so as to have as a focal point, as they commence to take their idea from the drawing board to production. Miami, Florida 11th March 2010: We would like to commence this article by saying that we at the AFA-31th Miami-Homestead Chapter are honored to have Mr. David Bernstein as one of our Chapter member. With that said, on 11th March 2010 at the scheduled meeting, Chapter members were treated to a wonderful and informative presentation given by Mr. Bernstein about his World War II U.S. Army Air Corp, 6th Air Force experience in Panama.

Shown above were two uniform articles which Mr. Bernstein brought in and proudly showed off and allowed members at the meeting to inspect these items concerning the history of the U.S. Air Force. His story was both informative and amusing, as Mr. Bernstein has an amazing way of capturing your attention when speaking of his experience in World War II while stationed in Panama with the 6th Air Force. His duties consisted of operating a one man coastal radar site which monitored for German submarines (U-Boat) activity and which was relayed to 6th Air Force patrol aircraft's. For 18 months he operated and sustained himself totally independent from any other support units expect for the occasional support air drops. As he comically put it "the placed me out there and forgot about me".

Baker Aviation School have inspired to built their own design and concept for competition within a Florida State Science competition. Miami, Florida 11th March 2010: "Relevant" is the new adopted word within the AFA-317th Miami-Homestead Chapter. Under the leadership of its Chapter President, Benny Benitez and through his aviation consultant firm, the 94th AeroClaims-Aviation Consultant Group and its subsidiary, the Digital Aircraft Factory, which is overseen by Ms. Catherine Smallwood who is the Chapter Secretary and one of two Chapter active commercial airline pilots, the AFA317th has been an instrumental source of technical, inspirational and financial help to an outstanding group of students from the George T.Baker Aviation School who have a keen eye for aerospace.

At the 317th schedule lunch board / member meeting held on 11th March, the Miami-Homestead Chapter advised Mr. Sean Gagallan, Principle of George T. Baker Aviation School that the 317th shall be donating US$1,000.00 to the student for their first phase of the project. An event is being planned for the formal presentation of support to the school.

This marks the 317th as the first group in Miami to step up to the plate and establish a solid start to the students project.

The Chapter leadership has marked this as their first major community contribution since taking office last November and with many more to follow, as the 317th Miami-Homestead Chapter of the AFA takes the lead within the community. Another benefit to which the students at George T,Baker Aviation School will draw from comes from the Chapter Vice President Lt.Col Rodrigo "Rod" Huete USAF (Ret.) who was not only a USAF but also an FAA test pilot as well and whose experience in the concept of design and flight testing will be a plus to the students.

Air Force Association Miami Chapter The 317th Teams Up With University of Miami AFROTC Det 155 To Assist In Haitian Earthquake Relief Effort

Celebrating a successful mission and showing their sign of support, the AFROTC Det 155 Cadets again unfurled and proudly hoisted the Air Force Association banner under the earthquake relief banner to show their support and being proud of assisting toward a worth effort in giving of their time and talent

The Founding President of the Rotary Club of Doral, Mr. Felipe E. Madrigal in the blue cap personally thanks the AFROTC Det 155 Cadets for an outstanding job and explained the role to which the Rotary Club of Doral has and continues to play concerning their concentrated effort toward the Haitian relief effort.

The result of a proper and well organized effort by the AFROTC Det 155 Cadets, as this one pallet was nearly completed and awaiting but a few last boxes before it was to be wrapped in clear shrink plastic so as to awaiting shipping to Haiti

A group of AFROTC Det 155 Cadets assembled themselves into four person crews and manned three sorting table work stations as shown above within the 10,000 square foot warehouse. The task at hand was to organize the many pounds of donated clothing for packing and shipping

Recognizing an environment of organization, the AFROTC Det 155 Cadets automatically dove into the job at hand by organizing, identifying and sorting the many different type, sizes and amount of donated clothing items for the Haitian relief effort

Doral, Florida 6th March 2010: The word "Relevant" is fast becoming the buzz around the Chapter, with its members and within South Florida, as the 317th reaches out to the needs of the community. Under the direction and mission planning efforts of the Chapter Vice President Lt.Col. Rodrigo "Rod" Huete USAF (Ret.) and in a joint effort with the leadership at the University of Miami Air Force ROTC Detachment "Det-155" under Lt.Col Theo Theodor Detachment Commander, the 317th and Det-155 showed their support toward the Haitian Relief Effort. Fourteen (14) Cadets from AFROTC Det-155 gave up five (5) hours of their free time on Saturday March 6 to assist in the sorting, packing and labeling of a vast amount of items being sent to Haiti by the Rotary Club of Doral.

The material handled by the Cadets consisted of all sorts and sizes of donated clothing. Shoes had to be paired up and secured to each other for packing with all material sorted in manner that would make any military logistic and supply Officer proud. The organization among the Cadet was nothing less than professional and to the highest standards of USAF Officer Corp. Mr. Felipe E. Madrigal, the Founding President of the Rotary Club of Doral was impressed by the effort and dedication shown by the 317th and the Cadets. We at the 317th are proud of our Cadets who are the future of our Air Force Officer Corp and our Nations Air Power!

Miami, Florida 3rd March 2010: The 317th once again is taking a head role concerning the aerospace education of our local students here within South Florida. Each year the Chapter holds a "Teachers Workshop" where local science teachers are exposed to certain aerospace issues and materials so that they could take back to their classroom for the benefit of the local student body and their introduction and continuance toward aerospace studies.

This year, the the 317th or as it is becoming to be known as the "Relevant Air Force Association Chapter" is taking a new and fresh approach. With the help of local organizations like the 94th AeroClaims-Aviation Consultant Group, the Digital Aircraft Factory and Atlantic-Models, the Chapter is looking to mentor, foster and support a team of outstanding students who attend the George T. Baker Aviation School of Miami in a cutting edge project.

The students shown above are under the direction and leadership of their teacher, Mrs, Noami Pascual. They are to take on the task of creating a hydrogen powered U.A.V for a State competition.

Two out of the five students who make up the group are members of the 319th Civil Air Patrol Squadron, based in Miami Springs, Florida and all show great interest and ability in aviation and aerospace studies. The 317th shall be a strong advocate and supporter of this project and through its Chapter leadership of which all are known and respected professionals within the aviation / aerospace sector of the Miami business market, the students look forward to tapping an cumulative and combined experience pool of well over 80 years, ranging from commercial airline maintenance, regulatory, aircraft design, flight instruction and military test flying. Homestead, Florida 6th February 2010: (Homestead Air Reserve Base) "Consolidation" is a buzz word that is often heard within corporate America, especially in these tough economics times and one that is now applying true toward the Air Force Association Chapters of South Florida.

Like most companies or corporations, consolidation is a virtues of shear survival so as to preserve what has been created by one party and to enhance another for an overall good.

With that said, the leadership of the Miami 317th Chapter and the Homestead 385th Chapter, the two Southern most Air Force Association Chapters within the Continental United States met to discuss a seamless blend of the two for the overall good of the Air Force Association.

The Homestead Chapter, the 385th has in the past years has experienced a slow down and despite the tremendous effort that the leadership at the 385th has done, the time has come to join forces with its neighbor at the 317th. For the past few years and despite the woes of the global economical down turn in 2009, the 317th experienced slow growth, but growth nonetheless and its membership forecast for 2010 / 2011 looks strong with a 1st quarter in 2010 of seven (7) new members. With its newly installed leadership of local aviation business personal with a pure entrepreneur business mind set, the 317th welcomes and see the possible merger with the 385th once approved and sanction by the State Leadership an asset to growth.

This pending merger shall place the 317th with a rank and file of about 550 plus members, elevating it to a "large" Chapter status which shall include the Common Wealth of Puerto Rico. The name once consolidation has been achieved, shall be "The Miami-Homestead", 317th Air Force Association Chapter.

Miami, Florida / Port a Prince, Haiti 27th January 2010: Very well being the ONLY Air Force Association Chapter to take part in the direct support and relief efforts into Haiti, elements of the Air Force Association Miami Chapter, the 317th organized, loaded up and crewed a support flight to Haiti on 27th January 2010.

Having been established by the 94th AeroClaims-Aviation Consultant Group (94th ACG), the parent company of the Chapter President and in a joint operational effort with an associated alliance companies such as Hunes McCoy Aviation which is based in Atlanta, Georgia and Walston Aviation LLC of Miami, Florida, an FAA FAR-135 operation, set the wheels into motion to provide airlift for the representatives of a major, U.S. national child adoption agency who traveled to Haiti to commence the return of children slated for adoption.

The the flight crew consisted of two AFA-317th Chapter Members thus being Mr. Chris Walston Mission Commander, Chapter Member and Catherine Smallwood Chapter Secretary who acted as Mission Specialist. Both crew members are fully rated and experienced flight instructors as well as seasoned commercial airline pilots from the cargo and regional passenger side of the industry.

AFA-317th crews are slated to again undertake a series of flights back and forth to Haiti while again utilizing the the Piper Chieftain aircraft, N4117K and a 30 passenger seat SAAB-340 turbo prop aircraft.

Miami, Florida 27th January 2010: April 15th the day we here in the States all known as “Tax Day” — the day we must all have our income tax forms filed with the IRS. In 1961 this day became infamous as this was the day the Fuerza Aérea de Liberación (Liberation Air Force) launched an aerial attacks against the Cuban mainland utilizing eight Douglas twin engine A‑26 Invader aircraft, thus began the Bay of Pigs Invasion (La Batalla de Girón, as it is known in Cuba). Controversy exists today regarding CIA and other US governmental assistance and that will be left to others for essay as well as heated discussion. There is no controversy that many were lost, on both sides.

But regardless as to how history may have embraced this event, the fact of the matter is that history for these two Countries the United States and Cuba was written with a U.S. Air Force aircraft, the Douglas A-26 "Invader".

Shown above is the new and wonderfully constructed memorial at Kendall Regional Airport (KTMB) which pays honor to the men who trained and flew the venerable A-26 Invader, as this article pays homage to the aircraft. Chapter President Benny F. Benitez view this memorial and was pleased to see the overall condition of the aircraft. Despite the humid and corrosive condition to aircraft that is South Florida, aircraft "931" appears to be cosmetically in great condition.

Having a Chapter member, Mr. Stan Bodner who flew A-26's in Germany in the 1950's, the 317th hopes to hold a seminar on and about the aircraft at the site for the benefit of local Civil Air Patrol Cadets and the public in the months to come.

Benitez proudly represented the 317th at the Civil Air Patrol, Tamiami Composite Squadron 335 annual banquet, which was held at the Homestead VFW Post 4127. Accompanied by the Chapter Secretary, Ms. Catherine Smallwood, who also serve as the Chapter Public Affair Office photographer, the Miami Chapter Air Force Association not only showed its presence and support toward the Cadets of 335, but handed out various AFA awards to the distinguished Cadets.

Given the opportunity by Lt. Col. Manuel Pelati, Group 7 Commander the AFA-317th President addressed the audience about the Miami Chapter Air Force Association and as to how the Chapter under his leadership looks forward to working with the Cadets of the Tamiami Composite Squadron.

Chapter Secretary Catherine Smallwood who is an FAA Certified Flight Instructor with all applicable ratings held a side bar conference with the leadership of the Tamiami Composite Squadron about assisting with her time and talent within their flight operations department.

Coast Guard Air Station Miami is equipped with a complement of six (6) EADS HH-65 Daulphin Search and Rescue Helicopters. The HH-65 is manned by a crew of four (4) individuals, two Pilots a Rescue Swimmer and In-Flight Mechanic

Aside of their Rotary wing assets, Coast Guard Air Station Miami is also equipped with fixed wing aircraft such as the Dassualt Falcon 20 otherwise known within Coast Guard Aviation as the HU-25. The HU-25 has a crew of four (4) individuals, two Pilots a Drop Master and a Observer. Dignitaries from Foreign Allied Nations and Governments, as well as prominent local business leaders to include State, County and City officials were all in attendance to help General Fraser, his family and his Command celebrate the New Year! The Air Force Association Miami Chapter, the 317th had both and honorable mention and presences, as the Chapter President, Mr. Benny F. Benitez was in attendance and proudly representing the Air Force Association.

Seizing the opportunity, Mr. Benitez was able to hold side bar conferences with various ranking officers and visiting dignitaries. One such conversation was with U.S. Southern Command Chief of Staff, Brigadier General David C. Garza (USMC). Mr. Benitez explained to Brigadier General Garza the AFA-317th wiliness and ability to assit in morale and welfare of his troops through reorganization and the rendering of well earned awards. The General was delighted and extended an open door visitation to his office, so as to forge a stronger link between the community (AFA-317th) and the Command. Other such conversations and exposure of the AFA-317th were held withe Honorable Don Slesnick, the Mayor of Coral Gables and Honorary Consul of the Country of Guyana, the Honorable Mr. Ramzan Roshanali.

Other notable mentioned included Mr. Brain C. Dawson of IBC Airways a locally based Miami Airline which operates the SAAB 340 and Fairchild Merlin II Turboprop aircraft's often in support of U.S. Southern Command.

All in all the Air Force Association Miami Chapter, the 317th seized a tremendous opportunity to present itself to many and thus raising the awareness and value of the Air Force Association in Miami.

Miami, Florida 8th January 2010: Rodrigo J. (Rod) Huete is presently a Test Pilot Consultant, recently retired from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), New York Aircraft Certification Office after having served the FAA for almost fourteen years. Rod also retired from the USAF in 1993 as a test pilot. He was a T-38 instructor Pilot, was a Flight Test Engineer in developmental testing of the F-15 and then was an F-15 fighter pilot in Germany.

He is a graduate of the USAF Test Pilot School, class 81A, stayed at Edwards AFB as an Air Launched Cruise Missile chase pilot, and then as chief of the Airframe Branch in the F-16 Test Force where he tested the first F-16 major electrical system upgrade, the LANTIRN pod structural verification and the first Digital Electronic Engine Control (DEEC) on a fighter engine. Rod was then assigned to the USAF TPS as an instructor test pilot where he was the lead instructor for spins and was triple rated in the F-4, T-38 and A-37.

Between flying duties Rod was assigned as special assistant to the Commander-In-Chief, US Southern Command in Panama where he programmed the requirements of Low Intensity Conflict technology such as the C-27 STOL aircraft, and the Caribbean Basin Radar Network (CBRN). He returned to flight testing at Edwards AFB as the Director of Safety flying the F-15 on APG-70 radar product improvements.

After retiring in 1993 Rod worked for the National Test Pilot School (NTPS) as an instructor test pilot and was assigned to Venezuela to complete the VF-5A/B avionics upgrade program which included a new weapons computer, a Heads-Up Display and it required a full air-to-ground weapons qualification. In the FAA Rod was the primary certification test pilot for all Bombardier jet products, he was part of several multi-pilot evaluations introducing glass cockpit concepts to Part 23 airplanes such as the Avidyne and Garmin G-1000.

As the Lead Flight Safety Officer for the Aircraft Certification Service Rod was integral in establishing the FAA Flight Test Risk Management process through FAA Order 4040.26; he was also the FAA lead for the NASA/FAA Flight Test Safety Database. Rod is type rated in the A-320, B-737, CRJ-100/200/700/900, Challenger 604/605, Challenger 300, Global Express and is also Seaplane and Glider rated. Rod is a two-time winner of the SETP Tony LeVier Flight test safety award (2000 and 2008).

Miami Springs, Florida 10th December 2009: The Miami Air Force Association 317th Chapter made a Holiday presentation at the annual Miami Maintenance Management Council Christmas Party thus providing Holiday AFA gifts bags as party door prize. The gift bags included a copy of the AFA December Magazine, dinner gift certificates to local restaurants and a complementary one year individual AFA membership. The winners shown above represent three major cargo airlines based in Miami and future supports of the AFA-317.

From top to bottom are cargo airline representative from DHL Cargo, AmeriJet and Florida West. Among the winner was Mr. James Celluar, PowerPlant Manager for DHL Cargo and a USAF Veteran who served as an F-4D Phantom engine jet mechanic and looks forward to becoming a supporting member of the 317th. The leadership at the 317th looks forward to hopefully securing DHL as one of their major corporate aviation sponsor. In attendance both enjoying the festivity and proudly representing the AFA 317th Chapter was President, Benny Benitez, Chapter Secretary, Catherine Smallwood, Chapter members Stan Bodner and Konrad Walter, President of Complete Turbine Support.

Air Force Association Miami Chapter The 317th President to Establish Ties With The Israeli Air Force Center

The McDonnell Douglas A-4N Skyhawk as shown at the Israeli Air Force Museum. The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk was the first ever modern Military Jet aircraft exported to Israeli from the United States, which open the doors to other aircraft such as the F-4 Phantom, F-15 Eagle and the F-16 Falcon

Another aircraft which few knew about being "leased" to the Israeli Air Force (IAF) by the United States was the Grumman OV-1 Mohawk, which was utilized for battlefield assessment. "U" who is shown above also flew one of the only two such aircraft leased and operated by the IAF during combat missions. According to "U" one OV-1 Mohawk was struck lighting while sitting at an IAF Base and destroyed, the second aircraft resides at the Israeli Air Force Museum

North Miami Beach 1st December 2009: Utilizing the international exposure and connections in which the 94th AeroClaims-Aviation Consultant Group maintains under the leadership and guidance of its Founder and CEO, Benny F. Benitez with Individuals, Companies and allied Governments world wide, these attributes shall be brought to bare for the benefit of the Miami Chapter of the Air Force Association. The 317th shall expand on an aggressive program in 2010 to locate and secure supporters and contributors outside the Continental Unites Stated (C.O.N.U.S) who are avid supports and beneficiary of U.S. Air Power.

One such contact and establishment shall be with the Israeli Air Force Center in Israel.

In his first month in office, the AFA-317th President, Benny F. Benitez has already called on and liaised with Israeli Air Force contacts both within the United States and aboard.

With the establishment of what being coined by the 317th as "Geographical Chapter Supporters" (GCS.s) for Companies and Governments and "Geographical Chapter Members" (GCM's) for individuals, the AFA-317th looks forward to an expanded global role unseen with the AFA community as whole in generating support. The mission for this global outreach effort is focused on the issue of raising and establishing a reserve of working fund for an aggressive educational support program for local South Florida area High Schools Jr. AFROTC programs and for the support of the University of Miami AFROTC program Detachment "Det 155".

Miami, Florida 24th November 2009: Recognizing and realizing that the mission of the Air Force Association and the Miami AFA-317th Chapter is to promote, foster and encourage the public awareness and understanding of United States Air Power and to assist the men and women who make all happen 365 days a year. The Miami AFA-317th Chapter shall be instituting a new connection with the Homestead Air Reserve Base 482nd Fighter Wing / 93rd Fighter Squadron "The Makos" F-16 Maintainers.

As a former Grumman F-14 Tomcat and Lockheed P-3 Orion maintainer, both at sea and ashore, former aircrewman on board the P-C Orion and a 20 plus year FAA A&P licensed maintenance management veteran of the commercial airline maintenance industry and world renowned aviation consultant, the AFA-317th newly installed President Benny F. Benitez, wishes to establish an award of excellent and reorganization toward the "Crew Chiefs" of the 93rd Fighter Squadron in as each yearly quarter, the AFA-317th Miami Chapter working closely with Col. Mike Reid Maintenance Group Commander will recognized and pay tribute to an outstanding "Crew Chief" based on his or her merits concerning military bearing, job / skill proficiency, morale and community service.

Homestead, Florida General Airport 21st November 2009: As soon as the new leadership at the Miami Air Force Association 317th Chapter was installed, the Chapter Vice President Rodrigo "Rod" Huete and Chapter Secretary, Catherine Smallwood accompany by University of Miami AFROTC Det. 155 Commander, Lt. Col. Theo Theodore, Jr. headed to Homestead General Airport, field identifier, X-51 to go aloft on the silent wings of a schwizer glider.

Chapter Vice President, Rodrigo an accomplished former USAF Lt. Colonel (Ret.) F-16 & F-15 Fighter / Test Pilot and FAA Designated Engineering Representative had to accomplished his glider proficiency check out and had very little trouble in inviting Chapter Secretary Catherine Smallwood who is an FAA Goldseal Flight Instructor and an airline ERJ-170 Regional Jet pilot to come along for some back seat stick time. Also invited was Col. Theo Theodore the University of Miami AFROTC Det. 155 Commander who also got to the ride the back seat, as "Rod" swapped out his backseaters to accommodate everyone.

Miami, Florida "University of Miami" 12th November 2009: The AFA-317th under the leadership of its new President and Executive Staff, Mr. Benny F. Benitez has met with the University of Miami AFROTC Det. 155 leadership to emphasize the 317th Chapter commitment toward helping the Cadets and strengthening the connection between the 317th Chapter and campus AFROTC leadership.

Harnessing the resources of the local Miami aviation community to include the multiple FAA repair facilities, flight training centers and airlines of whom many are either professional industry friends / colleagues and / or clients of the 94th AeroClaims-Aviation Consultant Group which is head up by the Chapter President, will work to harness the contribution power of local industry for the benefit of the Cadet Corp. at the University of Miami through the Miami Chapter of the Air Force Association.

Enjoying a warm meal and drinks are a few of Homestead USAF members who were very pleased and warmly expressed their appreciation for the support in which both the Miami and Homestead Air Force Association Chapters gave to the men and women in uniform on both days of the Air Show

The Air Force Association Miami Chapter, 317th had both the pleasure and honor to host Brigadier General William Binger and his family who graced the tent with their presence. Homestead Air Reserve Base 7th & 8th November 2009: After an almost 16 year hiatus, the sound U.S. Military Jets roaring overhead and the presence of a large public crowd walking a flight line in awe of U.S. Air Power once again occurred in South Florida. Wings Over Homestead occurred at Homestead Air Reserve Base on November 7th and 8th and was a complete success, as the South Florida public enjoying two action packed days.

The public was treated to a brilliant line up of classic, vintage and modern day aircraft's in both aerial and static display. The world famous U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds 2009 team capped off both days with an awesome display of airmanship second to none.

From an rare Grumman OV-1 "Mohawk" to the newest Boeing C-17A, the vast array of aircraft thrilled the audience. One surprise occurred during the second day of the airshow concerning the fly by of a B-2 Stealth Bomber. Another notable and amazing display was the "Fighter to Freighter" aerial display of the Boeing C-17A, Globmaster III, the world most nimble and agile cargo aircraft. The Air Force Association Miami Chapter, the 317th was proud to have been a contributing factor to the success of the show, as many of its Chapter members along with members from the Homestead 385th Chapter braved the high winds to man the tent and spread the word of the Air Force Association to the public. Homestead Air Reserve Base 6th November 2009: Harnessing their industry presence and power for the benefit of the 317th Chapter and as a special gift to both Brigadier General Binger and Lt. Col. Thomas, the Digital Aircraft Factory, a subsidiary of the Miami based 94th AeroClaims-Aviation Consultant Group under the technical and artistic leadership of it Director, Ms Catherine D. Smallwood created a one of a kind never before seen rendering of South Florida only two public, static displayed F-4D's Phantoms flying in formation over South Beach. The two subject aircraft's are tail code "OY" which graces the entrance at Homestead A.R.B as a proud gate guard and the second aircraft "FM" sits proudly on U.S. 1 in downtown Homestead. Both Brigadier General Binger and Lt. Col. Thomas were highly pleased and both were in awe over the scope of the detail and work that went into creating the life like image.

In 2010, the 317th Chapter under the creative leadership of Catherine Smallwood who is the newly elected and installed Chapter Secretary, shall create a few special rendering to commemorate Miami / South Florida contribution to the long and rich history of the United Stated Air Force for the benefit of raising funds for the Chapter concerning their sales and for special V.I.P gifts. Homestead Air Reserve Base 6th November 2009: In a joint effort elements of the Air Force Association, Miami, 317th Chapter linked up with members from the Homestead Chapter, the 385th in support of the "Wings Over Homestead Airshow 2009". Battling high winds and strong gust the members from both Chapters braved the elements to assist in the setting up of their AFA V.I.P tent. Special thanks and appreciation are rendered onto Mr. Mario Galiego of Miami based Flight Power Management a strong and established AFA-317th supporter who graciously donated the 20 x 30 foot tent and settings, consisting of tables and chairs. Flight Power Management are a stellar example of strong, positive and contributing AFA Community Partners.
